Missions and evangelism is important to us because it is important to God.
Our missions program, with the oversight of the Session, provides leadership to our congregation in helping TBPC to fulfill the Lord’s Great Commission: “Go therefore and make disciples of the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey all the commands that I have given you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age”. (Matthew 28:18-20)
Our missions program goals are:
- to develop and implement appropriate strategies to maximize the effectiveness of our resources in support of our missionaries on the field;
- to promote consistent congregational involvement in prayer, giving, and participation in missions activities (e.g., membership on the missions committee, going on short-term missions trips)
- to energize the congregation on the subject of missions, particularly by organizing an annual Missions Emphasis Weekend at which we can meet and encourage our visiting missionaries and hear reports from them;
- to recommend annual support amounts for individuals and ministries partners.
TBPC implemented in 2009 a Missions Fund approach to supporting our missions program. We will transition missions program support from the general budget over time as the Missions Fund grows in size. The Missions Fund is a designated fund; annual pledges are made to it at the time of our missions conference in February.
We have partnered for the last several years in supporting church-planting efforts with Ven Con Nostros, Cuidad Victoria, Mexico. Since 2009 we have sent short-term teams to assist with projects in Cuidad Victora and also some of our members have participated in medical mission teams to Monterrey Mexico. In addition to our international missions, we also send short-term teams to Cherokee NC., allowing for family groups to participate.
